| Bio: | Master in Music, Performance - University of Toronto Bachelor of Music, Performance - University of Toronto Hiroko Kagawa is an active performer, teacher and adjudicator. During her training, Ms. Kagawa played in master classes for a variety of notable artists such as Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Koichiro Harada, Stephen Clapp and Burton Kaplan. Her principal teacher at the University of Toronto was Andrew Dawes. Upon graduation, Ms. Kagawa held positions in her native Japan for 3 seasons, playing with the Osaka Philharmonic, Kansai Philharmonic and the award-winning Hayashi String Quartet before returning to Canada.
Ms. Kagawa was the founding member of the Atlantic String Quartet, Mondetta Ensemble and the University of Winnipeg's Quartet-in-Residence, Boreas String Quartet. She was first violinist with the Winnipeg Symphony and assistant concertmaster of the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra for 16 seasons, as well as principal second violin with the Manitoba MusikBarock Ensemble before moving to Toronto in 2003.
Ms. Kagawa is presently a busy freelance performer with the Canadian Opera Company, the National Ballet Orchestra of Canada, and Esprit Orchestra, as well as various other groups in the Toronto area.
Ms. Kagawa appears regularly as a chamber musician in various music festivals in Victoria, Salt Spring Island, Denman Island, B.C. and Elora, Ontario. On many occasions, her performances of chamber music have been broadcast on CBC radio.
Ms. Kagawa has adjudicated for the University of Manitoba, The Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory of Music, the Morden Festival, Manitoba, Yip's Music Festival, Markham, Ontario as well as for the Kiwanis Festival, Stratford. Ms. Kagawa has been a member of the RCM Faculty since 2005. |
