Performance Opportunities

The Academy Symphony Orchestra

The Academy Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is an essential part of the Senior Academy Program. With two key performances a year and a vigorous rehearsal schedule, the ASO provides excellent orchestral training for young musicians. The ASO performs challenging and rewarding works that will be beneficial to all members. Some recent works studied and performed include:

    •  A. Dvořák: Serenade
    •  W. Mozart: Symphony No. 40
    •  L. van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 2
    •  W. Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 4
    •  D. Shostakovich: Symphony No. 8
    •  W. Kilar: Orawa
    •  J.S. Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 4
    •  R. Murray Schafer: In Memoriam: Alberto Guerrero
    •  F. Mendelssohn: Octet in E-flat Major
    •  P. Tchaikovsky: Serenade

Concerto Competitions

Each fall, the Academy Symphony Orchestra holds a concerto competition to choose a soloist to perform in the spring. The RCM Chamber Orchestra and RCM Baroque Orchestra also have concerto competitions to choose soloists to perform with each orchestra.

Academy Concerts and Events

Students perform various solo and chamber works throughout the year. The administration and faculty organizes recitals that are advertised publicly and within The RCM. View all of the Academy concerts and events.
