Private Lessons

The Royal Conservatory is proud to provide one-on-one instruction of the highest quality combined with practical experience that broadens the scope of music education. Private lessons are available in more than 40 different instruments in practically every genre imaginable. In addition to offering unsurpassed studio instruction in classical instruments such as piano or violin, The RCM also offers training in jazz techniques and a huge selection of world music traditions.

TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning: 273 Bloor Street

In addition to individual instruction, students taking private lessons at the TELUS Centre will have access to a stunning array of opportunities - ensembles, lectures, master classes, festivals and performance experiences - that will enhance their musical education and connect them with other RCM students, families, and teachers.

Mississauga Campus

The Adamson Estate is a picturesque heritage property on Mississauga’s waterfront, located just off Lakeshore Drive. With plenty of free parking space, charming studios, and a warm and inviting group of faculty make the Adamson Estate the perfect place to take private lessons in Toronto's west end.

Home Studios

Home studios are maintained by official Royal Conservatory faculty members who choose to teach students from their homes. Please indicate "home studio" when you register should you wish to be matched with a home studio teacher. Placement at a home studio location is dependent on the location and availability of a home studio in your neighbourhood. Alternatively, we will match you with a faculty member who teaches the closest to our school locations.

Student Progress Tracking Evaluation Program

An important part of the process of learning music involves tracking a student’s progress. As such, all programs and lessons offered by the Royal Conservatory School include an evaluative component. All students enrolled in individual studio instruction that is not part of an integrated children’s program will have two progress-tracking evaluation sessions during the year (January and May), that are included as part of their program. During the months of September and October, the student and their studio teacher shall have discussed the year ahead, and set study plan and goals, which shall be recorded on a provided study plan and goal sheet. This sheet is then used as a reference point during the progress-tracking evaluations. These progress-tracking evaluations are an opportunity for each student to receive objective and encouraging independent feedback on their progress. The evaluations are informal and there are no marks assigned.

Fees

The Royal Conservatory School offers individual studio instruction either as part of an integrated program (such as the Royal Diploma, Suzuki Lab School, and comprehensive programs for teens and adults), or separately on an hourly fee basis. The RCM Faculty represent the high quality standard the RCM has built its reputation on, and as such, regardless of subject, one standard hourly tuition rate applies at each location. 2010-2011 fees will be availble in early August.

Scholarships and Bursaries are also available to students studying or who wish to study at The Royal Conservatory.
